Whilst spending time in the African bush as a child and teenager, it was torture to have to sit still, and in silence in a bird hide or look-out, so I began sketching the animals, birds and trees. I developed a love for the way they move, interact and survive. I have approached these wonderful subjects in many different mediums; some combinations have been inspired by experimental ideas for art workshops and others are more straightforward and chosen to best reflect the animal I am painting at the time. I am constantly looking for ways to express their character and vitality and, if appropriate, their comical side.
